Ofsted Inspection: We are a GOOD School

We are thrilled to share with you the outcome of our recent Ofsted inspection, carried out on 17 and 18 June 2025. We are proud to announce that Dogsthorpe Academy has been judged ‘Good’ in all areas - a significant step forward since our previous inspection.

The report highlights many wonderful strengths that make our school special. Pupils are described as happy and confident, and inspectors saw how our calm, respectful, and inclusive atmosphere helps every child to thrive. One pupil summed up the views of many when they said, “Teachers and staff value us a lot, they care for us and make sure we have the best education we can.” This reflects the genuine care and high expectations that underpin all we do at Dogsthorpe.

Inspectors praised our commitment to raising expectations and the improvements in our curriculum, especially in reading and mathematics. Our passionate teachers deliver a carefully planned reading programme that encourages pupils to develop a lifelong love of books. Many children also enjoy visiting the local library and talk enthusiastically about their favourite authors and stories.

Behaviour at Dogsthorpe was described as calm and positive, with pupils and staff consistently demonstrating kindness and respect. Inspectors observed that staff and pupils “model calm, warm interactions that reflect the school’s values,” and when challenges occur, our community quickly supports pupils to make better choices and maintain the excellent atmosphere we all value.

We are also proud of the inclusive support we provide for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). The report describes Dogsthorpe as “a highly inclusive school,” where staff know pupils well and adapt teaching to ensure everyone can access learning alongside their peers. Mental health and well-being remain a top priority, helping children become resilient and confident learners.

The report recognises that we have made progress, but also highlights areas for continued focus, such as developing subject knowledge among some staff and improving attendance to reduce missed learning. We are already working closely with families to address attendance and will continue to refine our teaching to ensure every child makes the best possible progress.
