Children who miss school miss important learning time. A child with 90% attendance misses out on four whole weeks of education and fall behind their peers. We work very hard with parents and carers to keep our attendance over 95%.

The Academy may refer your child to the Education Welfare Officer if their attendance or punctuality is causing concern. The Education Welfare Officer will then contact you either by phone, letter or with a home visit to discuss the Academy’s concerns and how attendance or punctuality can be improved.

Holidays during term time

Removing children from school during term time is incredibly disruptive to their education. From September 2013, the government changed the law so it is no longer possible to take children out of school for holidays in term time.

The Principal will no longer grant any leave of absence during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances and the number of days allowed will be at her discretion.

It is likely that the Academy will still grant permission for children to observe up to two days of religious observance. This must be requested using our standard leave of absence form.

Getting to the Academy on time

All children should come into school independently and hang their bags and coats without any adult help.

If your child arrives at the Academy after 8.45 am, they will be marked as late. Children who miss the beginning of the day miss vital learning and information. Lateness and persistent absence will lead to meetings with the Local Authority Attendance team who may choose to take parents to court if their children are not in school on time regularly or whose attendance is less than 90%.
