Special Educational Needs
Dogsthorpe Academy is an inclusive school which means that we look at the needs of all pupils; children with learning disabilities such as dyslexia, children who are Gifted and Talented, children who have English as an additional language, children who have issues with their behaviour and children with social and emotional needs.

Currently, we follow the Special Needs Code of Practice (2014). Under the discrimination Act 2001 we have ensured that our Academy building allows access to disabled pupils.
Where children suffer from a temporary disability following an accident or medical treatment, we carry out a risk assessment prior to their return to school so that we can ensure their health and safety and access to the curriculum. We ask parents/carers to always inform the Academy immediately when their child suffers limitations to their mobility such as broken arms and legs.
Our support staff have a wide variety of skills and qualifications in working with children with additional needs. We actively encourage parents/carers to discuss any concerns as soon as they occur or if they are worried about the progress their child is making with their class teacher in the first instance.
Special Educational needs concerns can be discussed with the Academy Special Educational needs Co-ordinator, Mrs Day.
